WHY GLOBAL HEALTH?
Global health is defined as "health problems, issues, and concerns that transcend national boundaries and may be best addressed by cooperative actions." It is essentially exploring public health issues with a global perspective, which is necessary in our shrinking world.
We study global health because:
-
To gain a better understanding of public health progress
-
To understand current public health challenges and what must be done to address them
-
To realize our increasing connections and influences with people everywhere
While the quality of life has increased throughout the years, disparities in health status and access to health services have grown dramatically. Global health, therefore, touches every aspect of our lives: economically, culturally, educationally, and morally.
We must remember that health is a human right.
